The Broadmoor

This anchor property of the Gulfport Gaslight District is still referred to as ‘The Broadmoor’ decades after its closing. Built in the 1940s, The Broadmoor was a longstanding grocer for its neighboring communities, with a stint featuring a gas station, video games, and other additions to its role for Broadmoor Place and Soria City residents growing up.

The reStore the Broadmoor project is seeking to revitalize this anchor commercial property with the goal of demonstrating viability of commercial business development within the context of economically distressed communities where property values are so often perceived to be too low for market-rate returns. This includes the restoration of a cottage, a cafe, two lofted master suites, and a community wildflower garden, staged and ready-to-host food trucks, community events, pop-up farmer markets, and other ways of activating the space.

Historic Restoration Effort

A portion of the costs associated with the restoration efforts to the Broadmoor are included in the funding request from Gulf Coast Restoration Funds, as a part of the Gulfport Gaslight District Project. The project has been a finalist three years running, but MS Legislators get the final say in allocations. Contact your Legislator today to advocate that this year, you want to see the Gulfport Gaslight District project as one of those funded through Gulf Coast Restoration Funds.
